Aftercare
After many years of experience, I have found my clients heal best when the aftercare is kept simple.
When you leave after getting tattooed, you’ll leave with a bandage on your tattoo. I suggest leaving this on for at least 2 hours, you can leave it on longer if you’ll be out and about. I do not suggest leaving this bandage on longer than 8 hours.
When you are ready to remove the bandage, gentle peel it off the tattoo, using warm water if the bandage is sticking to the tattoo.
Once the bandage is removed, wash your hands with a mild, unscented hand soap like Dial. After washing your hands, soap up the tattoo thoroughly and very gently wash away the excess ointment, plasma and blood. Completely rinse the tattoo with fresh warm water to remove the soap residue and gently dry the tattoo by patting it with a clean towel or allowing it to air dry.
When the tattoo is dry, apply a very thin layer of Aquaphor to the whole tattoo. Gently rub this in until it is absorbed, and leave the tattoo alone for the rest of the day.
On the following day and every day until the tattoo feels like normal skin, wash the tattoo gently and apply a thin layer of Aquaphor. In general, I suggest applying the Aquaphor twice daily, once in the morning and again later in the day, around early evening.
During the time your tattoo is healing, typically 10-14 days, keep it covered with loose fitting clothing. Keep it out of direct sun exposure and do not soak or submerge it for any length of time.
Your tattoo can get wet, showers are fine. No swimming, soaking or saunas!
Your tattoo will heal very much like a sunburn, with thin flaky scabs. This is normal. Do not pick at or scub the scabbing away, let it fall off on its own.
Keep it clean, keep it moist, and don’t pick at it!
I do guarantee all of my work, if you have any problems, questions or concerns before, during or after the healing of your new tattoo, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I am more than happy to help in any way I can.
