The Tattoo Process

Consultation

We schedule a time, usually about 30 minutes, in order to discuss your tattoo ideas. This gives us an opportunity to ask questions, talk about the desired design and what is possible with the tattoo, determine the best size, placement, style and other details in order to come up with the best ideas for your tattoo. The consultation is important to make sure we are both understand what the final outcome will be.

Design

After the consultation, I take time depending on the complexity of the idea, and draw based on the information I received durning the consultation. I use what references you may have, my own references and my artistic ability to create a drawing of the tattoo. For simple tattoos, this drawing will usually be seen at the beginning of the tattoo appointment for your approval. For larger projects, I will schedule another consultation in order the view and discuss the drawing to make sure I’m matching your vision of the tattoo. The design time can be as little as an hour, for smaller, simpler pieces and for larger pieces may be as long as a week or more.

Appointment

Your appointment will usually be scheduled during your consultation. When you arrive, we go over the design again to ensure the what I’ve drawn for you fits your vision, is scaled appropriately, and fits the desired location well. We’ll also discuss various aspects of the design such as shading, color, and line weight. I will advise on any potential complications that may arise due to placement or artistic choice. Once you have approved everything and are satisfied, I start the tattoo. After the tattoo is finished, I go through the aftercare procedure with you and provide you with a written guide in case you forget anything, bandage the tattoo and hopefully provide you with a great experience.
